As of October 13th 2010, CIRA's EPP based registry system is changing what type of restricted .CA domain names may be registered. Below is an outline of the changes. Previously CIRA would support the general registration of third and fourth level domain names, including conflicting domain name registrations. (eg. mydomain.on.ca, mydomain.bc.ca) These types of domain name registrations are no longer generally available.
Only first level (mydomain.ca) registrations are generally available. With the exception of fourth level municipal domain names, CIRA does not allow the registration of new third or fourth level domain names, but will continue to support existing third and fourth level domain names which were registered prior to October 12, 2010.
