The .AL domain extension is the official country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Republic of Albania. It is managed authoritatively by the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP).
Because of strict regional security and regulatory policies, the Albanian registry enforces mandatory data-validation and residency restrictions. Please review the registration requirements below before purchasing.
Registration & Local Presence Restrictions
Unlike generic extensions, a .AL domain requires local Albanian legal credentials to clear the registry's compliance layer. We do not provide local proxy or trustee services through our AL partners for this extension. The registry enforces the following structural rules:
Corporate Registrants: Any organization registering a
.ALdomain must provide a valid NIPT (Local Albanian VAT / Tax ID number). API submissions lacking a local NIPT code will be rejected automatically by the registry.
Individual Registrants: Individual registrations require a valid Albanian Citizen Identification Number or National Passport Number. This local citizen ID number must correspond perfectly with the country code in the applicant’s address profile.
The Bottom Line: If a foreign applicant (such as a UK, US, or Canadian resident) does not possess an active corporate registration in Albania (NIPT) or local citizenship credentials, the registry API will automatically refuse and fail the order.*
Strict Address & Validation Requirements
The AKEP registry runs automated syntax filters on all contact objects. To prevent your registration from hitting an immediate failure block, your account data must comply with the following:
- Contact Type Mapping: The domain owner contact type must be explicitly set to either PERSON (for individuals) or ORG (for registered businesses). Custom or unmapped contact tags will cause an API failure.
- Granular Address Fields: Your street address must be fully detailed, including street name, building number, entrance number, floor, or apartment number if applicable.
- Special Characters: The address fields must not contain special characters or symbols. Only letters, numbers, and commas are allowed.
- ZIP / Postal Codes: The postal code must be written as a solid string and cannot contain any blank spaces.
- Phone Numbers: The telephone or mobile number supplied must correspond perfectly to the international dialing country code provided in the address field.
Forbidden & Reserved Names
The Albanian government strictly reserves and forbids certain words from being registered. This includes domains related to government institutions, geographical locations, international organizations, or names that violate public order.
You can cross-reference the official, live lists of forbidden and reserved strings directly via AKEP's regulatory publications.
Additional Domain Details
- Registration Term: 1 Year minimum (Renewable annually).
- Registration Processing Time: Due to manual registry verification layers, processing can take 3 to 4 business days to complete.
- WHOIS Privacy: Not available for this extension. Registrant data is handled according to registry compliance rules.
Checking Order Status: If you notice a delay in your domain showing up as active in your dashboard, it is undergoing standard registry evaluation. You are welcome to inquire about your registration status at any time by emailing us at service@rebel.com, and our supervisor team will gladly provide you with a direct progress update!
