If your email stopped working after changing your domain’s name servers, it’s usually related to DNS records not being configured correctly on the new name servers. When name servers are changed, all DNS records (including email records) must exist on the new DNS provider.
Here are a few things you can check:
1. Check that your MX records are set correctly
MX (Mail Exchange) records tell the internet where to deliver your email. When name servers are changed, your previous MX records may no longer exist. Make sure the correct MX records for your email service are added to the new DNS zone.
2. Confirm that DNS changes have fully propagated
After updating name servers or DNS records, it can take up to 24–48 hours for the changes to fully update across the internet. During this time, email delivery may be inconsistent.
3. Verify your mail-related DNS records (SPF, DKIM, etc.)
If you are using external email services or spam protection, you may also need to re-add TXT records such as SPF or DKIM. Missing records may cause email sending issues or messages being flagged as spam.
4. Make sure your domain is pointing to the correct mail server
If your email is hosted with us, confirm that the domain’s MX records are pointing to our mail servers. If you use a third-party email provider, the MX records should point to their servers instead.
5. Check your email client settings
If you are using an email program like Outlook, Apple Mail, or a mobile device, confirm that the incoming and outgoing mail server settings have not changed and are still pointing to the correct mail servers.
Our email setup assistant will be a great tool to lead you step by step on how to find your email settings: Email Set-up Assistant
6. Check our service status page
If everything appears to be configured correctly, it’s a good idea to check our status page to ensure there are no ongoing issues affecting email services.
