If you’re able to receive emails but are having trouble sending them, your incoming mail settings may be correct, but there could be an issue with your outgoing (SMTP) settings.
You can find your personalized email settings and a step-by-step guide to configuring your account using our Email Setup Assistant.
Because our outgoing mail server requires authentication, make sure you’re using the same login credentials (username and password) as your incoming mail server when sending email.
If You’re Still Having Trouble Sending Emails
After verifying your settings and making any necessary changes, you may still experience issues. In most cases, this is due to one of the following:
1. Security software blocking outgoing mail
Your firewall or antivirus program may be preventing emails from leaving your device.
Try temporarily disabling your security software and sending a test email. If the message goes through, you’ll need to adjust your security settings to allow outgoing mail from your email client.
2. Your IP address may be on a blocklist
Every internet connection uses a unique IP address. Some services block outgoing mail from certain IP addresses if they’ve previously been associated with spam-like activity.
-
To find your IP address, visit hosting.rebel.com/myip/.
-
To check if your IP is on a blocklist, visit Spamhaus.org and use their Blocklist Removal Center.
If your IP appears on a blocklist, follow the instructions provided on their site to request removal.
3. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is blocking outgoing mail
Some ISPs, such as Rogers or Telus, restrict outgoing email to their own mail servers for security reasons.
To confirm, contact your ISP and ask if they require you to use their SMTP server settings for outgoing mail. If so, they’ll provide the correct server name and port number for you to use in your email client.
