Domain statuses in our system indicate the current state of a domain and what actions can or cannot be performed on it. These statuses are essential when troubleshooting issues related to renewals, transfers, or domain availability.
Below are the most common statuses you’ll encounter and what they mean.
Active (ACT)
This is the normal state of a domain.
- The domain is registered and fully functional
- DNS is resolving correctly
- The domain can be managed, renewed, or transferred
No action is required when a domain is in this state.
SOB (Transferred Out)
This status means the domain has been successfully transferred away to another registrar.
- The domain is no longer managed in our system
- No changes or renewals can be made
You may still see the domain in the account for historical/reference purposes.
EXP (Expired)
The domain has passed its expiration date.
- The domain may stop resolving (website/email may go offline)
- The client can typically still renew it within the grace period
If not renewed, the domain will continue through the expiration lifecycle.
ICRT (InterCompany Registrar Transfer)
This status indicates the domain has been moved internally between registrars within our system.
- The domain is still active and managed
- This is not a transfer to an external registrar
No action is typically required unless troubleshooting a migration-related issue.
DEL (Deleted)
The domain has been fully deleted.
- It is no longer active or recoverable through our system
- It may become available for public registration again, depending on the registry
No further actions can be taken once a domain reaches this status.
TK (Transfer Killed)
This status indicates that a domain transfer was initiated but did not complete.
- The transfer may have failed, been cancelled, or rejected
- The domain remains with the current registrar
Further investigation may be needed to determine why the transfer did not go through.
EXDEL (External Domain Deleted)
This is a legacy status.
- It was previously used for domains managed externally that were deleted
- We no longer support external domains, so this status should only appear on older accounts
No action is required for this status.
Key reminders for agents
- Always check the domain status first when troubleshooting
- Status determines what actions are possible (renewal, transfer, recovery, etc.)
- Some statuses (like SOB or DEL) are final and cannot be reversed
