When you install a new SSL certificate using a CSR (Certificate Signing Request), the certificate authority (CA) must verify that you own the domain before issuing the certificate. This verification step ensures your SSL is securely and correctly associated with your domain.
Verifying your SSL
There are two main ways to complete this verification. In most cases, you will be sent an approval email, which you will be able to accept and consequently download your certificate. The second process would be requesting a TXT record, which will have to be done through our customer service team.
Requesting a TXT record
In the case you don't have access to the approval email addresses associated with your domain, please follow these steps:
Step 1.
Please reach out to our support team by email, live chat , or phone. We will provide you with a unique TXT record that you’ll need to add to your domain’s DNS settings. This record confirms domain ownership to the certificate authority.
If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, please input the TXT record within your host, and let us know once it has been added. If your DNS is hosted with Rebel, please follow the next steps:
Step 2.
Log in to your Rebel account, then select "Products" in the top-left corner. In the top toolbar, you will see "Domains”. Please select this.
Step 3.
Select “Manage” on the right-hand side of the domain you’d like to add the TXT record to.
Step 4.
On the domain editing page, select the "DNS" tab in the upper left.
Step 5.
Scroll down to Manage Advanced DNS Records and click on "Advanced DNS Settings".
| Important: If the Nameserver Information section shows your domain as set to Use Third Party Hosting, the Advanced DNS will only be accessible with your hosting provider. Advanced DNS records live on nameservers. You will only be able to access the Advanced DNS from within your Rebel account if the name server information for your domain is currently set to Park with Rebel, Forward Domain, or Host with Rebel. |
Step 6.
To add your TXT record, click the button showing "Add Record" in the upper right.
Step 7.
Click the drop-down and set the Record Type to "TXT".
Step 8.
Enter the required details for the DNS record in the “Host” and “Points to” fields.
Host: Enter the subdomain or record name (for example, @ for the root domain or www for a www record).
Points to: Enter the destination value provided by your hosting or email provider.
The TTL field can be left as the default if no information is provided.
Once all required information has been entered, select “Add Record” to save the DNS record.
Step 9.
Once you’ve added the TXT record, please notify our support team so they can confirm the verification and complete your SSL setup. The verification process may take a few minutes to propagate, depending on your DNS provider.
