Purpose
This article explains the mechanism by which automated recurring renewal charges may successfully process on a credit card that has recently expired, been closed, or been replaced by the issuing financial institution.
Overview of the Account Updater Service:
Rebel.com utilizes secure, industry-standard automated payment processing solutions to manage subscription renewals. To ensure that critical digital infrastructure—such as domain name registrations, SSL security certificates, and hosting environments—does not experience service disruption, our payment gateway utilizes an integrated Account Updater service.
This service is a secure network utility supported by major credit card associations (including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) and commercial banking institutions globally.
Operational Mechanism:
When a service within your Rebel.com account is approaching its scheduled automatic renewal date, the billing system executes the following protocols:
Pre-Billing Verification: Approximately seven (7) days prior to the scheduled invoice processing date, the payment gateway initiates a secure query to the corresponding card network vault.
Financial Institution Synchronization: The credit card network checks with the issuing bank to determine if the cardholder's tokenized details have changed (e.g., due to the issuance of a replacement card, a new expiration date, or an account number modification).
Encrypted Token Refresh: If an update is detected, the financial institution securely transmits an updated, encrypted authorization token to our processor.
Subscription Maintenance: The recurring renewal invoice is successfully settled using the updated banking parameters, ensuring that live website traffic, database access, and corporate email routing remain fully operational.
Please Note: Because this synchronization occurs via secure, encrypted backend tokens directly between the financial institution and the payment gateway, your local Rebel.com account dashboard UI may continue to display the legacy expiration date until it is manually updated.
Managing Account Billing Preferences

Updating Payment Credentials
To manually overwrite legacy card details with new credit card parameters, please follow the formal procedures outlined in our documentation: How do I update my payment information?
Modifying Auto-Renewal Settings
If you do not intend to maintain a subscription for a specific domain or service, you must disable the automatic renewal feature prior to the generation of the renewal invoice:
Authenticate into your Rebel.com Account Dashboard.
Navigate to the specific asset (Domain).
Toggle the Automatic Renewal setting to "Off".
Once disabled, the system will clear the asset from the automated billing queue, and the service will terminate naturally upon reaching its registry expiration date.
