If you are hosting a PHP-based website or web application (such as Laravel, Symfony, or custom PHP code) on your Rebel Plesk Hosting account, you may have noticed the PHP Composer tool in your control panel.
This guide explains what PHP Composer is, how it works in our hosting environment, and where our technical support boundary lies.
What is PHP Composer?
PHP Composer is a dependency manager for PHP. Think of it as an automated package downloader for web applications.
Instead of searching the web, manually downloading third-party code libraries (like payment gateway integrations, PDF generators, or email senders), and manually uploading them via FTP, Composer manages these packages through a configuration file named
composer.json.Why Use PHP Composer on Rebel Hosting?
Modern web applications rely on external code packages. Composer simplifies managing these packages by:
- Automating Package Management: Installs and updates external PHP packages directly through your hosting interface.
- Managing Updates: Helps developers keep application libraries updated to secure versions.
- Resolving Dependencies: Checks that required packages are compatible with each other and your active PHP version.
- Saving Time: Allows developers to store a single lightweight configuration file (
composer.json) rather than uploading thousands of vendor files via FTP.
How to Access PHP Composer in Rebel Plesk
You do not need command-line (SSH) access to use Composer on Rebel Shared Hosting. You can manage path mappings and package visibility directly through the interface:
- Log into your Rebel Account and open your Plesk Control Panel.
- Navigate to Websites & Domains.
- Select PHP Composer under your domain name.
- From this dashboard, you can view detected packages, edit
composer.json, or click Rescan if your project directory was recently moved or updated.
Our Scope of Support
To help you get the best assistance, here is how we handle PHP Composer inquiries:
- What Rebel Support Handles: We ensure that the Plesk control panel, server environment, PHP versions, and the PHP Composer tool extension are functioning properly on our servers. If the tool itself fails to load or experiences server-side errors, our team will investigate.
- What Requires a Web Developer: Rebel Support team members are hosting specialists, not web developers. Custom coding, debugging PHP scripts, editing package dependencies, or fixing syntax errors within your
composer.jsonorcomposer.lockfiles fall outside our scope of support and must be handled by your web developer.
Support Hours
Our Customer Support team is available during standard operational hours. If you submit a request regarding server or hosting performance outside of business hours, our team will review it as soon as operations resume.
