If you’re trying to forward your domain and see an error like:
“This domain has hosting attached. Please cancel hosting before setting up forwarding.”
Don’t worry—this is a common situation.
Why this happens
Domain forwarding and hosting cannot be active on the same domain at the same time.
If your domain currently has a hosting package (sometimes called “classic hosting”) attached to it, the system will block forwarding from being set up.
This is because hosting means your domain is actively serving a website, while forwarding redirects visitors to a different destination. These two functions conflict with each other.
What you need to do
Before you can enable domain forwarding, you’ll need to remove the hosting package from your domain.
Once the hosting is removed, you’ll be able to set up forwarding without any issues.
Important things to consider
Before removing your hosting, make sure you no longer need anything associated with it.
This may include:
- Your website files
- Email accounts linked to the domain
- Databases or other hosted content
If you still need any of these, we recommend backing them up before proceeding.
What happens after hosting is removed
Once hosting is removed, your domain will no longer display a website or use hosting-related services.
At that point, you can set up domain forwarding to redirect visitors to another website.
